Access Control

For most businesses and institutions there is a need to restrict access, to a greater or lesser extent, to authorised personnel within their premises. This is the primary function of access control but there are other benefits too, namely the ability of the system to generate reports for use by Facilities Managers and others. Personnel within a building can be readily identified, staff movements throughout the building can be tracked and European legislation concerning personnel Time and Attendance issues can be met by the larger access control system software packages.

The open architecture of some manufacturer's software enables an increasing level of integration with other systems. A link to the Human Resources database can allow a certain amount of new employee data to be transferred into the access control database, avoiding duplication of data entry. Access rights can be automatically removed from a leaving employee as HR remove that employees payroll details, eliminating the issue of unauthorised active access control cards in circulation.
