CCTV:
The
Data Protection Act 1998 requires that;
Cameras should be properly maintained and serviced to ensure that
clear images are recorded (Third & Fourth Data Protection Principles).
The changes in data protection legislation, which came into force on 1st
March 2000, mean that for the first time legally enforceable standards
apply to the collection and processing of images relating to individuals.
Most CCTV systems are now required to be logged with the Data Protection
Commissioner (now called the Information Commissioner). Leigh Visual is
fully versed with all aspects of the Data Protection Act and are happy
to provide a free survey to ensure that all aspects of your system are
compliant.
Access
Control:
An access control system needs to be maintained on a regular
basis to ensure that all its hardware elements, namely locks, card readers,
door contacts and exit switches, operate reliably. Failure of any one
of these elements could result in significant disruption for the system
owner.
A computerised system needs regular housekeeping to ensure that access
is granted or denied to the correct users. The system also needs a regular
appraisal to determine whether it is functioning as effectively as possible
whilst maintaining operational security.
Intruder:
Insurance companies require that all systems covered by a policy
are regularly maintained to guarantee reliable operation. Most systems
need to be installed and maintained by a NACOSS accredited company to
obtain any form of insurance cover.
In recent years the industry has been striving to reduce the number of
false alarms. Police no longer respond to an alarm system with a history
of false alarms. Regular maintenance will help to minimise this problem.
