Vehicle Number Plate Recognition Whilst the technology for Vehicle Number Plate Recognition (VNPR) has been around for some time it is with the advent of congestion charging in central London which has really brought the technology to the fore. A combination of a specially adapted high resolution camera combined with an infa-red lamp deliver an image to a dedicated computer. The computer then uses sophisticated software to interpret the images from the VNPR camera. The software on the computer then converts the image into data which can then be used to perform a number of automated tasks. For example; open a gate or barrier, pass data through to a computer controlled access control system or simply store the data for use at a later date. VNPR systems can operate at incredible speed, with vehicles traveling at over 60mph, combined with exceptional accuracy. Most modern systems operate at 98% efficiency, illegally adjusted number plates account for the number plates not recognized. When the VNPR camera is used in conjunction with a regular camera the software two images are combined to form one record, one image of the number plate and one of the car and occupant. When the system is used in this way even the possible 2% of non recognised cars can be viewed for further investigation. If you would like to see how the benefits of VNPR then we can arrange a demo of the system working on your site. Click here for a mail request or call the office. If
you would like to view a datasheet of a typical VNPR system click here. |
